PROPELLER CENTRE is pleased to announce exhibitions by FRANCES FERDINANDS
"FOOD FOR THOUGHT" and PAT DUMAS-HUDECKI "LOST IN TRANSITION"
"FOOD FOR THOUGHT" is Ferdinands
new series of mixed media works combining Western and South Asian imagery.
These form the basis for exploring issues such as loss/displacement of
people/food sources, commercial, sexual aspects of food, and its place
in religious practise. Using a mix of historical and contemporary references
to delve into these areas, images are often repeated in iconographic fashion
in varying contexts. Much of the work is presented with an ironic/humorous
twist, the juxtapositions often emphasizing the dualities at work.
Born in Sri Lanka, Frances Ferdinands is a Toronto-based Canadian
artist. Ferdinands has exhibited her paintings for over two decades
in group and solo exhibitions in such diverse places as Paris, Honolulu,
Bogota, the Continental U.S.A. and across Canada. She is the recipient
of many Grants from the Ontario Arts Council, and the Canada Council,
and her work has been purchased for inclusion in corporate, public,
and private collections.

"LOST IN TRANSITION" is Dumas-Hudecki's
new series of acrylic paintings that uses the ‘major works’ created by
the unselfconscious 'young master' as its starting point. She recreates
the child’s work in a new context and on a grander scale, and then overpaints
with her own objects, connecting the two to the passing of time and innocence,
while also playfully adopting the role of the adult defacing the child’s
work. Pat Dumas-Hudecki, born in Hamilton, is a graduate of The Ontario
College of Art. She has been exhibiting her paintings since 1995 in Canada
and the USA., where her works have garnered awards, and may be found in
private and public collections.
