(From letter sent to Propeller Gallery - invitation to collaborate) Between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday 14 July, the Association of Improvising Musicians (AIMToronto) will once again turn Queen Street West into a focal point of creative music in Canada by filling the neighbourhood with the diverse sounds of the finest players in the city. With your collaboration, we will host a short, concentrated festival of local music-making amid the works that fill the galleries along Queen West, with the aim to forge ties between and to promote the scenes of visual art and music in Toronto. The Toronto creative music scene is increasingly recognized as one of the world’s finest, most active, and most diverse. AIMToronto has over 160 member-musicians, including some of Canada’s brightest musical talents who are regularly lauded internationally. MUSIC (in) GALLERIES will be a walking tour of this music scene through the geography of the Queen West neighbourhood and its most forward-looking galleries. Listener/viewers will experience a range of local musical talent at no cost while viewing the exhibitions in the galleries where the music is being made. AIMToronto invites your gallery to collaborate with us on this exciting public event. AIMToronto supports creative practices that draw from countless musical styles and traditions, and which employ varied compositional, improvisational, and conceptual approaches. Jazz, drum & bass, classical, rock, and folk traditions from around the world are just some of the stylistic informants of our members’ music. It is a good indicator of the artistic health of the creative music scene when it cannot be easily summed up! For your reference, a full list of AIMToronto members with links to many of their own pages is available at www.aimtoronto.org/membership/members.php
