HAIR PIECE is composed
of cut hair from various hair salons, the sweepings off the
floor. Hair has such fetish value in our society but does account for
a certain amount of
self-expression and self-definition. Once free, loose hair tends to take
on elements of
disgust. I wanted to use these factors to show how societal matrixing
maintains order at
the sacrifice of the individual’s full creative being. Hinted at
are the waxing and
preening demanded for social acceptability. But through it all resonates
a repressed
sexuality and energy that is harnessed and held in and at what cost. |
