ARTIST STATEMENT

The moniker hag, which I use to sign and exhibit my work, is comprised of my initials. It embodies the meaning of the seer, which is evocative of the spiritual nature of my paintings, which I see as contemporary icons. My work blends the sexual and the spiritual, which I believe are channeled from the same life force. Theoretically, the purpose of my work is to convey a message, which is achieved through the use of symbolism and text. I incorporate fairy tales, mythology, religious stories and figures in my work as well as poetry and prose. In some ways, the symbolic and literary clues are the allegorical bread left behind by Hansel and Gretal to find their way back home.
