Boats of life: On the Irish Sea, Lake Winnipeg, Lake Erie and - close to home! - Toronto Harbour. If you have loved a boat sometime in your life, then you know that there is "nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."  Or painting them in the abstract...golden artifacts to rusting tugs to fierce ice breakers.

Nothing evokes more storytelling and dreaming than boats.  Each story touches our hearts.   My excitement over boats is no doubt in my DNA as my Scottish surname “Murdoch” means Sea Warrior (probably Pirate!)  My enjoyment of working-class boats in Toronto Harbour – including tugboats, fireboats and icebreakers - reflects my past in the labour movement.  Also close to my stories and my heart – and love of colour - are fishing boats on Lake Erie and canoes on Lake Winnipeg”.
